Uniting Care’s Food Rescue Program
Alinta Energy has been the principal partner of Uniting Care West’s ‘Food Rescue’ program since 2013. The program aims to alleviate hunger and reduce waste food by salvaging fresh produce that would otherwise have gone to waste and donating it to people who are disadvantaged or vulnerable within the Perth community.
Working with around 80 local donors such as supermarkets, cafes and caterers, the cause has collected to date - 37,996 kgs or equivalent to 75,992 meals, which are then distributed free of charge to people in need such as; the homeless, women and children in crisis, new arrivals to Australia, youth in crisis, indigenous communities, elderly people and families on low incomes.
During our sponsorship, some of our employees have also volunteered their time to pick up and pack produce in the Food Rescue distribution centres as well as the CBD Cargo Cart initiative, our employees have contributed in collecting approximately 1,457 items.
Alinta Energy is proud to the principal partner of this great community initiative. Find out more about the Food Rescue Program.
