Our history in Australia dates back over 20 years. Today we're a national energy retailer with an ongoing commitment to make energy better.

Our story starts in the West
Our history of making energy more affordable in Australia goes back to the 1990s, when we started supplying gas to households in Western Australia and the ‘Alinta’ brand was born as AlintaGas.
In 1998 the Western Australian Government privatised AlintaGas. Since then, we’ve grown to become the largest privately-owned energy company in WA. From supplying major mining customers in the Pilbara, to operating power stations south of Perth, we’re committed to investing in WA.

Now we're a force in the East
We’re now growing rapidly on the east coast of Australia.
Alinta Energy is Australia’s fastest growing retailer on the east coast with over 1.1 million customers and 1000 employees across Australia choosing us to supply their energy needs.

Generating Australia's energy
We operate several power stations across Australia, including the Braemar Power Station in Queensland, the Wagerup Power Station in Western Australia and the Glenbrook Power Station in New Zealand.
In January 2018, our owners acquired the Loy Yang B Power Station in Victoria. Employing hundreds of local people in the Latrobe Valley, Loy Yang B is one of the most efficient power stations in Victoria, supplying energy for around 1.5 million homes.

Sustainability is important to us and we've investing $10bn in several large-scale renewables and storage projects — such as the Yandin Wind Farm and Oven Mountain Pumped Hydro Storage Project — as part of our aim to provide reliable, affordable and sustainable energy to our customers.
