Carbon Repeal

Background

The previous Labor Federal Government introduced a carbon price on 1 July 2012. On 17 July 2014, the Federal Parliament passed legislation to repeal the carbon price effective from 1 July 2014.

Will I receive any savings now that the carbon tax has been repealed?

Alinta Energy will remove the carbon price and pass on any cost savings associated with the repeal of the carbon price to our customers. While the price of carbon – and associated savings – will vary by individual circumstances, including region and consumption, Alinta Energy has an unwavering commitment to remove this component (where customers have a carbon component in their prices) from our retail prices, and will communicate with our customers promptly as to the savings benefits. In accordance with the legislation, we will communicate to customers the average or estimated annual cost savings attributable to the carbon price repeal for their customer class.

Will I get a refund if I have paid the carbon tax from 1 July 2014?

Customers who have already paid a bill with consumption in July at the existing tariff will receive a refund or adjustment credit on their account for carbon costs incurred from 1 July 2014 until the prices in our billing systems are adjusted and updated to remove the carbon component. This will be reflected on your next account if applicable.

Will I still get a refund if I'm no longer an Alinta Energy customer?

If you are owed a carbon cost refund Alinta Energy will apply that credit to your old account if there is an amount owing. If you leave Alinta Energy please update your contact details with us so we can contact you if you are entitled to a refund.
